About Glagolitic Script
The Glagolitic script (Glagoljica) is the oldest known Slavic alphabet, dating back to the 9th century. It was created by the Byzantine monks Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius to translate liturgical texts into Old Church Slavonic. While other Slavic regions eventually adopted Cyrillic or Latin alphabets, Croatia preserved Glagoljica for over a thousand years, developing a unique 'angular' style. It was used for religious texts, legal documents like the Baška Tablet, and literature, becoming a foundational pillar of Croatian cultural identity.
